Director of Business Development

We are seeking a Business Development Director to be part of our Leadership Team who will be instrumental in fostering the growth of our existing healthcare and commercial markets while expanding our footprint in Lab/Life Science, High Tech/Manufacturing, Automotive and Higher Education markets.

As part of the Leadership Team, this individual will work closely with the President, interfacing with Operations, Preconstruction and Marketing daily.  This individual will have a firm understanding of the building process and have developed local construction industry contacts in architecture, engineering/consultant and construction management firms. Must be able to identify new business opportunities that fit our target markets as well as create and maintain effective strategic client relationships.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of local A/E/C industry experience, with a positive brand image in the market.
  • Focus primarily on the Southern California market and all county markets within this area.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, engineers, construction managers key: continually finding new relationships along with maintaining existing ones.
  • Key point of contact for BD opportunities.
  • Generate new leads in target market sectors with potential emphasis on undeveloped markets such as Lab/ Life Science, High Tech/Manufacturing, Higher Education.
  • Support ongoing business development efforts in core markets such as Healthcare, Commercial and Automotive, etc.
  • Work with the leadership team and be an integral part of the development of the business planning efforts.
  • Intelligence gathering on customers and competitors in the Market.
  • Assessment of marketing opportunities with target customers. Having business acumen to identify financially sound business deals (pre- Go/No-Go evaluation).
  • Focused plan on promoting brand image for Morris Construction in the marketplace.
  • Follow up on sales activity through the life of the project (pre-bid through construction). i.e. Customer Satisfaction Surveys
  • Participate with team – aiding the marketing department with proposals and presentations.
  • Attend job walks when needed to gather project information to support proposal strategies.
  • Lead and aid presentation team where needed – presentation rehearsal, sharing information on client.
  • Track target opportunities in Pipeline and maintain Customer capture plans for key pursuits.
  • Hold others accountable to do the same. Responsible for debriefs – documenting reasons for wins and losses.
  • Manage strategic partnerships. Entertain and foster relationships with key decision makers. Participation in SoCal industry events – represent Morris Construction in key organizations: participate on boards that relate and affect A/E/C industry.
  • Work closely with leadership committee to track progress toward business unit’s sales objectives.
  • Work closely with leadership committee to achieve overall BD goals.

Special Projects Group Manager

Our company is growing….The bus is leaving, get onboard or be left behind.

Morris Construction is seeking an experienced Project Manager to develop and grow our Special Projects group.  This is an exciting career growth opportunity for the right individual who will be ultimately responsible for the day-to-day execution, project controls, project engineering, cost, risk and business management of multiple special services group projects ($2 million and under) from pre-construction through closeout.

SPG projects will be commercial projects within our core markets: healthcare, advanced technology, life sciences, higher education, automotive, retail and corporate office/TI. The SPG Project manager will work closely with all members of the project team, project executives and leadership team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Management of all project team members (project engineers, superintendents, and office coordinator). Project teams could range from 2-3 employees.

Mentor and train project engineers for fast-paced growth development and apply Morris core values.

  • 100% detailed/hands-on knowledge of project scope.
  • Solid understanding of building processes and systems.
  • Cost control/billings/collections/change management/monthly status reports.
  • Ability to do cost estimating, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Key point of contact with owner and architect.
  • Challenge & support jobsite and self-perform work team.
  • Accountable for project completion and financials, critical success factors, and customer satisfaction results.

Project Manager

Duties include but not limited to:

Initiate and maintain all required project schedules. Establish, implement and administer a jobsite quality plan. Establish administrative procedures for the project to be in accordance with established company policies. Examine all construction documents for appropriate construction details and completeness of information, potential design deficiencies, code violations, and constructability. Establish and maintain professional and effective relations with the Owner and Architect, meeting with them on a regular basis to review all aspects of the project.

Organize, train and oversee field and office staff as required to properly perform their duties. Produce a Project Organization chart and assure that each individual and their supervisors know their duties and have the proper equipment and training to perform such duties. Coordinate and direct estimating, purchasing, engineering, accounting, and construction functions as they relate to the project. Responsible for the development of personnel assigned to the project(s) by monitoring performance, reviewing evaluations, varying assignments, etc. and promoting a positive project morale.

Skills & Experience:

  • Prior experience managing multiple projects a plus
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Microsoft Project Scheduling and Outlook a Must (Adobe and/or Blue beam preferred)
  • OSHPD experience a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful Project Management Experience on new commercial construction projects in the $1-5 million range. Design-build experience a plus. Diverse experience with a variety of building types.
  • Budget control and job cost forecasting experience and skills.
  • Ability to direct planning, design and implementation of architectural/engineering designs and construction phases of construction projects.
  • Schedule Creation, implementation and monthly progress updates.

Project Superintendent

Position Description: The Superintendent is the on-site person responsible for the overall execution of the work in accordance with the contract documents including but not limited to, project completion, leadership, schedule deadlines, project planning, quality and safety as well as owner liaison. We are looking for someone with commercial experience who is accustomed to working in occupied space and had strong customer service skills. Also need to be willing to put on your tool bags and participate in the work.


  • Produce and monitor the project safety plans and monitor the jobsite safety and daily inspections
  • Create a culture of safety at the job site and sets the tone for achieving positive safety results on the project
  • Responsible for the proper execution of the work in accordance with the contract documents
  • Represent the Company concerning on-site matters with the owner and designers
  • Monitor the base line project schedule to assure conformance, and produce and manage the “3-week look ahead” schedule and direct weekly subcontractor meetings
  • Ensures that the project is delivered to the client with the highest level of quality
  • Monitor progress of project quality control for conformance to the project quality control plan
  • Responsible for writing and distributing the daily job report and other reports
  • Understand and implement all terms and conditions of all subcontracts and the owner contract
  • Assure conformance of field installations with the project documentation including review and approval of subcontractor’s shop drawings
  • Maintain project as-builds and assist the Project Manager with project close-out
  • Effectively manages the cost of work to ensure costs do not exceed the budget

Skills & Experience:

  • 5 or more years commercial construction experience for a general contractor
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Experience working as a general superintendent
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including excel, word and outlook, Microsoft Project software knowledge is a plus
  • Ability to lead and assess trade performance and quality on the job
  • Ability to visualize the entire project and anticipate constructability issues and embed solutions in the construction plans and schedules
  • Can visualize and create the project schedules critical path
Project Engineer

Duties include but not limited to:

The Project Engineer is accountable to the Project Manager in all matters concerning project operations.

The Project Engineer supports the project team with technical aspects of the job administration at the direction of the Project Manager and/or Superintendent. It is the Engineer’s responsibility to administer project control as assigned.

The Project Engineer will work closely with the Project Manger to ensure all projects stay on schedule and on budget. Ensure all documentation between the Subcontractors and Project Administration is collected and processed in a timely manner. Oversee and support the Project Manager in keeping all project logs up to date. Ensure that submittals are obtained, reviewed and approved, and that materials and equipment are released for fabrication in time for delivery as required at jobsite. Support the Project Manager in overseeing new project bids (follow up, collecting bids, establishing relationships with estimators, etc.) Support the Project Manager in new project start up documentation and setting up standard files, etc. Facilitate the RFI process as directed by the Project Manager and Superintendent. Assist Project Manager and Superintendent in obtaining and submitting As-Built drawings, guarantees, warranties, and required operating instructions. Support Project Manager in obtaining all closeout documentation from the subcontractors in a timely manner as per the Project Specifications. Staying in communication with all Project Staff and supporting as needed.

Skills & Experience:

  • Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook a Must (Microsoft Project preferred)
  • Medical construction experience a plus
  • Adobe and/or Blue beam preferred 1-3 years’ experience as a Construction Project Engineer
  • Knowledge of construction documents (RFI’s, Submittals, Contracts, etc.)
  • Ability to read Construction Drawings
  • Strong Communication skills and ability to establish and maintain relationships with subcontractors
  • Strong computer skills
  • Able to support as well as delegate responsibility as needed

Project Coordinator

Duties include but not limited to:

Plan, Organize, and Act as the Company Representative pertaining to project documentation.

Anticipates and provides for Company’s needs to access information and general coordination with daily project activities. May act as a liaison between Company and: Customers, Subcontractors, Architects, Owner, and General Contractors on active projects.

Maintains and Monitors Records Cleans up project records; coordinates the transmission of submittals, RFI’s, processes monthly pay apps for subcontractors. Prepares and tracks contracts and necessary insurance documentation. Maintains subcontractors job folders and ensures all required documentation is up to date.

Ensures as-builts are provided and filed; collects Subcontractor O&M manuals; prepares Company’s Job Specific O&M manuals, accepted submittals, testing requirements, all related project material, and collects all compliance documents for closeout. Maintains project logs on buyout, submittals, Requests for Information (RFI), and Change Orders to verify timely architectural/engineering response.

Maintain project documentation; ensures that memos, faxes, emails, and conversation issues are promptly distributed to those who need to know; performs other related duties as assigned.
